The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
